Extractions.
Good oral hygiene matters, and losing even one tooth can affect the rest of your bite and how your smile looks. That's why preserving a natural tooth is always our first goal — but sometimes an extraction is the healthiest option.
We may recommend extraction for severe decay, advanced gum disease, infection or abscess, a fractured tooth or root, or as part of orthodontic treatment. An exam and X-rays help us assess the tooth's position and the bone around it before deciding on the right path. Impacted teeth, including wisdom teeth, are evaluated case by case — see our wisdom teeth extractions page for more.
What to expect
Some discomfort after an extraction is normal, and it's manageable with over-the-counter pain relievers and a cold compress applied to the face for about 15 minutes at a time. Most people feel back to normal within a few days to two weeks, depending on the tooth.
If you experience prolonged or severe pain, swelling, bleeding, or fever after an extraction, call our office right away.
