Wisdom Teeth Extractions.
Wisdom teeth are the third set of molars that come in at the very back of your mouth, usually in your late teens or early twenties. When there isn't enough room for them, they can crowd neighboring teeth, come in at an angle, or become impacted below the gumline.
Not every wisdom tooth needs to come out — we evaluate each case individually, with imaging, before recommending extraction.
Signs you may need them removed
Jaw pain near the back of the mouth, visible crowding or pressure on nearby teeth, recurring infection or gum swelling around a partially erupted tooth, and cysts forming around an impacted tooth are all reasons to have wisdom teeth evaluated.
What to expect
We start with imaging to see exactly how your wisdom teeth are positioned, then numb the area with local anesthetic before the extraction. Depending on how the tooth is positioned, the procedure may be straightforward or more involved — we'll walk you through which applies to you before we begin. More complex cases may be referred out.
Most patients see the bulk of swelling and discomfort resolve within three to five days, with full healing over the following few weeks.
