A filling restores a decayed tooth back to its normal shape and function. We remove the decayed tooth material, clean the area, and fill the cavity to help prevent further bacterial infiltration.

There are several types of fillings, and the right one depends on the tooth and the case. Composite fillings use a tooth-colored resin that blends with your natural teeth. Amalgam fillings combine metals, including silver, tin, copper, and mercury, for durability in areas that take heavy chewing force. Ceramic fillings are crafted from porcelain and offer durability with a natural appearance.

What to expect

We'll start with an examination, including X-rays if needed, to determine the extent of the decay and the best filling material for your case. The decayed portion of the tooth is gently removed and the area is cleaned, then the filling material is placed in layers and shaped to restore the tooth's natural form. Once it's in place, the filling is hardened with a special light and polished to blend with your natural teeth.
