Emergency Exams.

Dental pain rarely waits for a convenient time. A cracked tooth, a lost filling, or a sudden swelling can turn urgent fast, and knowing what to do in the first few minutes matters as much as the treatment that follows.

An emergency exam gives us a clear picture of what's happening — usually with a visual exam and X-rays — so we can relieve the pain and map out the right next step, whether that's a filling, a root canal, an extraction, or something else entirely.

Signs it's a dental emergency

  • Severe tooth pain. Persistent, intense pain often points to decay, infection, or a crack that needs professional attention.
  • A knocked-out tooth. Acting quickly matters. Rinse the tooth gently, avoid touching the root, and keep it in milk or saliva on the way in.
  • A broken or fractured tooth. An exposed nerve raises infection risk. Rinse with warm water and use a cold compress to manage swelling in the meantime.
  • Swelling or an abscess. Swelling in the face, gums, or jaw can signal an infection that needs prompt care.
  • Bleeding that won't stop. Uncontrolled bleeding in the mouth warrants an immediate call to our office.

What to expect

Call our office as soon as you notice a problem. We'll ask what's going on, get you scheduled, and let you know what to do in the meantime to manage pain or protect a tooth before your visit.

From there, the plan follows the same standard as every visit here — a full picture of what's going on before we decide what's next.
